In a search for stars, I found a website that has a list of all kinds of Unicode entities provided as a sort of test suite (they even have the Deseret alphabet!). A great reference. Here are some of my favorites:
(Note: Not all browsers/platforms may support these symbols. Oh well!)
☁ (9729, a black cloud)
★ (9733, black filled star)
☆ (9734, outlined star)
☠ (9760, skull and crossbones)
♐ (9808, Sagittarius, my sign)
♞ (9822, black chess knight)
♨ (9832, steam rising)
♫ (9835, eighth notes)
♭ (9837, music flat)
♮ (9839, music neutral)
♯ (9839, music sharp)
♻ (9851, generic recycle)
All these cool dingbat symbols work in Safari 2.0.2 (Tiger), but not in the newest incarnation of Firefox on the same platform. Interesting… (It doesn’t work in IE/Mac either, but who cares?).
