Today was the much anticipated "Great Pumpkin Festival" presented by the Utah Shakespearean Festival. This year the event was organized and managed by Katy Shannon, one of the MFA students in my class. She did an amazing job, making this second-annual event a great success.
I helped set up and run the event from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. It was a long day, but was highlighted by Melissa, Elise and Issac coming to visit.
Melissa, Elise and Isaac came right to the face-painting booth where I was working and I painted a black nose, whiskers, and a spotted eye on Elise. It was great fun. We then picked up a pumpkin and painted it; got a suger cookie, decorated and ate it; jumped in a leaf pile; made a "pumpkito" (i.e. deep-fried tortilla shell, sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar); attempted the straw maze; played "musical bales of hey" for a moment; and walked around several times.
The event was well attended (~1,000 guests; 350 tickets sold). The event was well worth the $5 entrance fee.
