On Saturday, we embarked on another family adventure to visit historic Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg. The drive from Woodbridge to Jamestown was thick with traffic, at times bumper-to-bumper. We couldn't figure out what the rush was, but later we postulated it might be the locals driving to the beach. At any rate, we finally made it, in spite if the traffic.
The weather was gloomy: clowdy, overcast, and drizzly rain. However, when we arrived at the tourist-town Jamestown Settlement: a recreation of the original 1600s settlement. We thoroughly enjoyed the reconstructed buildings, indian village, and especially the ships. Elise had a fun time exploring each ship and walking through the open cabins.
A half-mile down the road is the original Jamestown historic site where active research is being done. Melissa and I really enjoyed seeing this site, along with all the artifacts. It was neat to see and feel what it may have been like to arrive in America during the 1600s.
