Happy Thanksgiving!

by Derek—2005.11.24 @ 0800

On my way back from the store yesterday (I had to buy some last-minute items), I happened to hear an interesting editorial on NPR about gratitude. The speaker was an editor for a major newspaper and he made an interesting point: history remembers far better than it lives. The point was we often hear or say, “if only we lived back in the ‘good old days.’” The editor spoke on how much better off we are today than we ever have been in history. For example, the violent crime rate is down across the country, new cancer drugs are well on their way on the ‘race’ for a cure, and more than 70% of Americans own their own homes. The message was to remember that amid all the turmoil today, there is still much to be grateful for.

We sure have a lot to be grateful for in our family. This year we will be celebrating Thanksgiving with Jeff and Lynette at home. It makes you realize how wonderful family is and how blessed we are to have relative close to share memories with.
