We had a fun Halloween this year. Elise went as “Jane” from Disney’s Tarzan. Isaac changed his mind at the last minute and went as a pirate. Dayton tagged along as a cute “pumpkin.”
The ward put together a “trunk-or-treat” the Saturday before Halloween. When we arrived, everyone was going indoors because of a light rain. Inside the church, games were set up for the kids including face painting, toy fishing, and donut bobbing. Elise had loads of fun, but Isaac distrusted everyone in costume.
After the games, families retreated into several classrooms ready for the trick-or-treaters. The kids went from room to room collecting candy. I didn’t get set up in time and found a less-than-ideal location in the primary room. No kids seemed to notice that I was giving out candy, so I began throwing candy into their buckets as they walked past. By the end of the evening, I was literally dumping candy into kids’ buckets just to get rid of it.
On the day of Halloween, the kids dressed up again and went out with Melissa around our neighborhood. In less than 10 stops, they had filled their small buckets with more than enough loot to satisfy them for weeks. Elise and Isaac thoroughly enjoyed helping Mom and Dad distribute candy to visitors to our door. It was a fun evening!
