WebCam I

When we decided to take the job in Virginia we knew we would have to keep in good contact with our family back west. Since most of us use Macintosh computers, we instantly thought of using Apple's iSight and iChat. Cameron also brought up the possibility of using the iSight as a webcam, where he could monitor his classroom when he was away. I did some searching online and found a reference to EvoCam -- an amazing webcam software with TONS of features.

Although we didn't have an iSight handy, we borrowed Jason's JVC Firewire video camera and took some pictures. One of EvoCam's handy features is the ability to set up "hotspots" for motion detection. With this feature enabled, you can configure multiple areas that are searched for movement. If motion is detected, a picture is taken. We also enabled one of the archive features to upload an image to a server.
