My New York Trip

New York City View

I grabbed some more of the photos I took while in New York City a few weeks ago. I already talked about watching shows on Broadway, but the real reason I arrived at the Big Apple was to accompany the U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” on their annual concert treck to the city. Each year, the band sponsors a Young Artist Competition in the city where students compete, win, and solo with the band in a grand concert at the Lincoln Center. The other grand concert is with the U.S. Army Orchestra at the Trinity Church on Wall Street. This chapel, affectionately known as the “little chapel that stood” is just a block away from Ground Zero—the site of the Twin Towers.

After the concert at Trinity Church, I ran down to the site and took a few photos. I wish I could have spent a little more time looking, reading, and soaking in the moment, but the band was on a schedule and I had to run back to catch the bus.

Overall, NYC is a little grimy, dirty, and congested: it took over an hour to maneuver the bus a block to get into the tunnel exiting the city!

With any luck, I’ll be coming back next year with the band.
